5. The Get Down – $11 million per episode
Back in 2016 this was the most expensive production of Netflix. Originally the budget per episode was lower but after a lot of issues with old song rights, changes of scripting and actor replacements it was stretched to $11 million per episode: the very first season had a total cost of $120 million.
4. Band of Brothers – $12.5 million per episode
This Second World War miniseries was produced in 2001 by Tom Hanks and directed by Steven Spielberg. The TV show went on air on HBO and with $12.5 million of budget per episode against a total cost of $125 million for the whole first and only season back in time was considered a big hazard. However the miniseries was a great success getting plenty of awards and accolades.
3. ER – $13 million per episode
ER went on air on NBC between 1994 and 2009 but was only after 1999, after the huge success of the first seasons and the main actors who became very famous, that the budget per single episode went up to $13 million. Still today is the most successful medical drama ever.

Game of Thrones has been since release the most successful, till today, HBO TV production. The average cost per episode is $15 million and it is so high due to the fantasy background, the locations all over the world, CGI and well paid actors.
